THE FIRST STEP TO EMPLOYMENT:
Go to http://personnel.ky.gov and
follow the instructions below.

Access to the internet and an e-mail
account are required. Have your education and job history information
available in order to assist in the completion of your application. An
on-line tutorial is available to walk you through the application process.
In addition, there are HELP links on every section.

You must self nominate (apply) to
each posted position of interest. You may save your application
online for future use.
Upon accessing the Personnel Cabinet website,
select the Job Seekers link which will lead you to the Career Opportunities
System (COS) page. Select the State Job Opportunities link and log in. If a
first time visitor, select click here to create a new account link.

Read the Terms of Agreement and click the
AGREE button.

On the Create login page, enter your
e-mail address, choose and enter a password, reenter the password for
verification, select a security question from the drop-down list, and enter
the answer to your security question.

Click the create button.
-
You will be taken to the Welcome
page.

Scroll down and click on the Edit your
profile link.
-
Complete the Contact Information
[required fields are labeled with an asterisk (*)]
If you skip a required field, COS will alert you and prompt you to fill in
any missed fields before you can save your application.

Click the SAVE button.
You will be directed to the application and
prompted to fill in your social security number. Click the OK button and
begin to fill in your application. When the application is complete, you will
be ready to search for and apply to any jobs of interest. Please remember that
there are qualification requirements for each position.
HELPFUL HINTS

Each applicant must create an account with
his or her individual e-mail, which is a unique identifier.
Live Help is available. This tool allows a
Personnel Cabinet customer service representative to help you find the
information you need.

The Personnel Cabinet, located at 501 High
Street, Frankfort, KY., has 20 computers available for your use. Please
check
www.personnel.ky.gov for hours of availability.

You may set up a search agent by choosing
specific criteria such as job title, salary, agency, or work county and ask
to be notified by e-mail when vacant positions match your preferences.

Once you have applied for a job and receive
confirmation of successful application submission, you may review your
progress through the job submission status (qualification, certification to
agency, etc.).

Wildlife Biologist
Wildlife biologists might find
themselves:
-
conducting detailed surveys of wildlife populations
-
preparing detailed reports concerning their findings
-
collecting age and growth information in the field and
at check stations
-
working with private landowners to develop habitat
improvement projects
-
transporting wildlife
-
working with other experienced biologists involving a
variety of other wildlife management activities.
Fishery
Biologist
Fisheries biologists could
expect to:

perform research work on fish populations
-
prepare scientific reports
-
investigate fish kills
-
analyze fish samples
-
determine water quality
-
assist in fish cultures at one of the state hatcheries
-
work with other experienced biologists involving a
variety of fisheries management practices
Conservation Education Program Leader (CEPL)
CEPLs are involved in:

presenting conservation education programs to schools
-
organizing youth hunting and fishing events
-
instructing outdoor activities at summer conservation
camps
-
working with experienced instructors in conducting
hunter education safety classes
Conservation Officer (Law Enforcement)
After extensive training, Law
Enforcement Officers enforce state and federal laws with particular emphasis on
state fish, game and boating regulations. Examples of duties would
include:

extensive field work
-
vessel safety inspections
-
communications with sportsmen and boaters
-
public relations
-
investigation of complaints and offenses
-
conducts boating safety education courses
-
issue citations
-
make arrests
-
court case preparation and prosecution
-
work with other professionals in the department
The Kentucky Department of Fish
and Wildlife Resources employs professional biologists, educators and law
enforcement personnel. A limited number of positions are maintained in support
areas such as Information and Education, Engineering, Information Technology,
Administration, Geoprocessing, Licensing, Grants and Accounting which require
degrees in the related fields such as engineering, accounting, business
management, computer science, public relations and marketing, etc. In some
instances work experience will substitute for the required education.
Paraprofessional POSITIONS
Our Engineering, Fisheries and
Wildlife Divisions utilize a number of Fish and Wildlife Technicians. These are
paraprofessional classifications that assist biologists and engineers in the
performance of their duties. Employees in this classification might find
themselves:

transporting animals
-
preparing land areas for animal management programs
-
taking samples of aquatic life
-
preparing reports for the use of the biologist
-
constructing sport fishing and boating access.
