To better assist those driving through the Commonwealth, the Department has developed files that can be imported into a variety of Geographic Positioning System (GPS) navigation devices. Different devices may support different formats of files. You may wish use your favorite search engine to search for utilities that will work best with your device.
The GPX format should work well for Garmin and Humminbird gps devices. In each case, you will need to have the PC interface cable and the software specific to the GPS device to upload the data.
For Garmin, the POI loader utility allows uploading the points to the Garmin Nuvi. Additionally the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources provides a
DNR Garmin Application.
You have to put your file in it’s own folder for it to be recognized. Once installed on GPS, the points can be found under Where to? / Extras/ Custom POIs
You may also convert files from the GPX GPS format to a format unique to your GPS with a conversion utility like
GPS Babel.
This conversion site supports DeLorme, TomTom, Magellan and many other manufacturers.
We also provide KMZ
